LaVerne was predeceased by her parents Kamasuke and Chiduko Hamabata, her parents-in-law, David and Helen Major, her sister Cheryl Prins and brother-in-law Murray Smith.

She is survived by her husband David Major and two children, Ian Major (Raeni Halim) of Quebec City, QC and Noriko (Sean) Hessmann of Edmonton AB and three grandchildren, Aiko Major, Cypris Rollins and Anouck Major. She is also survived by five siblings, Happy Smith, Nadine Hamabata, Louise (Jim) Harrison, Duane Hamabata, and Lindsay (Cindy) Hamabata, sisters-in-law, Frances (Al) Paulisson, Elspeth (Peter) King and Queade (Bruno) DiIlio and brother-inlaw Joe Prins.
